This right-arm fast bowler is part of most successful pace attack of South African cricket history along with Morne Morkel and Dale Steyn. Philander made his Test debut on 9 November 2011 against Australia and took man-of-the-match award due to his outstanding bowling which includes the magical performance in second innings when he took 5 wickets for just 15 runs and dismissed Australia for 47, their lowest Test Innings total since 1902. He also took the Man-of-the-series award in his debut Test series.
Philander continued his sensation form in coming Test matches and became fifth player in history of Test Match Cricket to take five wickets in an innings in each of his first three Tests. He took his 50th wicket in his seventh Test match and became the second fastest bowler ever to get 50 Test wickets.
