Highest Mountain in Antarctica
Vinson Massif is the highest Mountain in the snow covered mountain of Antarctica. It is situated in the Sentinel Range of the Ellsworth Mountains, near the base of Antarctic Peninsula. Vinson Massif is located about 1200 kilometres from the South Pole. Total elevation of this mountain is 4892 meters or 16050 feet.
This mountain was first seen in 1958 and first climber in 1966 by Nicholas Clinch. It was named after Carl Vinson, a long time member of the US Congress from the state of Georgia.
