Gregory van der Wiel
The young Dutch player is the product of Ajax youth system and the right back is famous for his speedy runs down the flank. In 2010, he earned the award of “Young Player of the Year” in Netherlands. Many of his team-mates considered him as a successor of great Dutch defender Michael Reiziger. Overall he is one of the most praised defenders in Europe.
Gregory Kurtley van der Wiel was born on 3 February 1988 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. His father is from Curacao, Caribbean Island, and his mother is Dutch. He was discovered by the scouts of Ajax at an early age that brought him into the Ajax Academy. From 1996 to 2002 he remained with Ajax Youth Academy and improved his skills as a defender. Finally he made his senior club debut in 2007 from Ajax. He remained with the club for almost five years and became the backbone of his club’s defense line. In 2012 PSG singed him for transfer fee of around 6 million Euros.
Gregory van der Wiel also represented the U19 and U21 teams of Holland. In 2009 he made his national debut and since then a permanent member of Dutch National Team.
